On December 17, 2019, the City of Toronto officially recognized that housing is a human right. Through the HousingTO 2020-2030 Action Plan, Toronto’s 10-year housing and homelessness plan, Toronto is now the first city in Canada to make the right to housing a central guiding principle in its housing strategy.
We got here because of your support!
We asked you to send a letter to your City Councillor and the Mayor urging them to vote for a progressive rights-based housing plan, and over 600 people in Toronto responded to the call to action and let City Council know.
We are hopeful that this major step will lay the foundation for more progressive and effective housing policies in Toronto, that prioritize the most vulnerable and put human rights at the centre of decision making.
Of course, the work is not over yet. We have a lot ahead of us and we’ll keep you updated on the progress the City is making. In the meantime, let’s celebrate this amazing achievement!
